An Official Logo for Canada's Birthday Town

Picture
Lyle Glover's cartoons were a highlight of the Aurora Banner during the late 1960's and 1970's.  When speaking of Lyle's talent, Bob Buchanan, editor of the Aurora Banner, remarked:

"We know of no artist of his calibre whose work appears in one Canadian weekly newspaper and we are proud to be the vehicle for his graphic comments on local and wider affairs" (The First Book of Glover).
The logo for Canada's Birthday Town was created by Lyle Glover, a cartoonist for the Aurora Banner, and Harry Milanoswki, the art director of A.D. Gorrie Advertising in Toronto.  The logo was their contribution to the Town's July 1st festivities and continues to be used today.

The inspiration behind the design came from a very popular firework, known as the Catherine Wheel.
