Norman Stewart

Norman (Norm) Stewart is widely credited as Aurora's July 1st champion.  He was the chair of the committee for the the Richardson Drive Street Parties and the motivating force behind Aurora's designations of Canada's Birthday Town.

Norm was an engaged citizen and served as Veteran Militia Officer with the Queen's York Rangers for six years before retiring and running for Town Council.  He was first elected as Councillor in 1969 and brought with him unparalleled enthusiasm for proper July 1st celebrations and together they headed the committee for the inaugural 1969 festivities.

Norm served as Councillor from 1969 - 1978 and 1989-1991.  Without his energy and enthusiasm for turning July 1st into a proper holiday, the Town of Aurora may never have become Canada's Birthday Town.
